The Boca Raton Symphonia iTANGO Dinner Dance and Auction
A fun and exciting evening, a great Tango performance and a fundraising auction all to benefit The Symphonia of Boca Raton.
The mission of The SYMPHONIA is to enrich the South Florida community through distinctive musical performances and innovative educational outreach programs. Inspiring and engaging both existing and new audiences, The SYMPHONIA, is committed to the highest standards of artistic excellence.
The SYMPHONIA, a world class chamber orchestra, is dedicated to keeping classical music flourishing in South Florida. Founded in July 2004 as the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia, The SYMPHONIA is called a “gem of an orchestra” by music critics because of the high caliber of its musicians, guest artists and programming.
After the demise of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra in 2003, local music lovers strived to fill the void. Marshall Turkin and Martin L. Coyne, both experienced in symphonic management, had a vision to create a new, financially-stable musical group that would perform in South Palm Beach County. An infrastructure was developed for the formation of a viable chamber-sized orchestra.
With the support of prominent Boca Raton philanthropists Edith and Martin Stein, funds were raised and the orchestra presented its inaugural Connoisseur Concert Series in 2005-2006. Jeffrey Kaye, former FPO Principal Trumpet and now The SYMPHONIA’s Artistic Director, was a founding Board Member and Orchestra Manager. Annabel Russell, now The SYMPHONIA’s Executive Director, joined the team to organize and run all internal operations.
Since its inception, The Connoisseur Concert Series has been performed to wide critical acclaim. With a repertoire blending classic with contemporary works, these concerts offer compositions from diverse composers, highlighting those that can best be brought to life by a chamber-size ensemble. Performances have expanded to audiences in Ft. Lauderdale and northern Palm Beach County.
Fulfilling its mission of “engaging and inspiring traditional and new audiences” The SYMPHONIA has presented a Young People’s Classical Concert Series and Family Concerts. In 2011-2012, The SYMPHONIA introduced “Meet the Orchestra” a program that allows children to interact with musicians at dress rehearsals and features an instrument “petting zoo.” The SYMPHONIA supports the Youth Orchestra of Palm Beach County, offering its young musicians the opportunity to interact with professionals.
The SYMPHONIA musicians perform for the Festival of the Arts Boca. The group is Ensemble in Residence at Florida Atlantic University and enjoys an acclaimed partnership with the Master Chorale of South Florida. Recognizing that the arts are essential to the quality of life, The SYMPHONIA works with The City of Boca Raton to develop concepts for ongoing Community Concerts.
